Lost Generation | TILT Birmingham, B2 4TX
12.08. 17 – 16.08.17
Exhibition Launch: 11.08.176pm
Lost Generation explores British youth culture and alternative lifestyles as an attempt to escape both the mundanity of the working week and the political animosity experienced by a large percentage of Millennials and working-class communities.
The exhibition displays the work of seven independent photographers, who document contemporary British youth culture through their own experiences and within their own environments and communities. Using traditional analogue photographic practices and disseminating their work through zines, these artists use the DIY ethic throughout their individual practises.
Taking inspiration from Seth Seiglaub’s January Show, the exhibition includes a reading space that displays the exhibiting artist’s own publications. The reading space highlights the importance of zine culture within contemporary arts, whilst celebrating the experimental rawness of the self-published photo book.
Lost Generation was realised through the creative connections made through social media platform Instagram. Instagram continues to provide an important platform for artists to engage with creative online communities, whilst innovating connections, exchanges and collaborations within contemporary arts. Instagram continues to provide a platform for such opportunities and outputs as this exhibition.
